Rocks, Money, and the Rule of 72

I cannot thank my JT enough for the Garmin...it allows me to find all kinds of interesting attractions - go off the main route and then it leads me back again to the main route. With my sense of direction, it sure is a blessing.

While I was on the highway going north to Nebraska from Kansas, I saw a sign for an attraction and used the Garmim to find the directions. It was a pleasant off the main road drive. I saw a field with one of those old wooden windmills and lots of rolling fields. Had to stop and take a picture, and while talking to Tony I realized that the sun and I were facing the wrong direction for me to get a good shot. A nice man in a pickup truck stopped to see if I was okay and I waved him off and showed him my camera. While driving to the attraction, I also saw about 3/4 of a mile of burned fields. I know that it is probably the best for the soil and the easiest way to make sure the field was cleared, but part of me was wondering about the air pollution that resulted in the burn. I was just glad that it wasn't happening on the day I was driving, although I did have to buy fabreeze the other day after going to the casino. (I am loving walmarts)

There is something to be said about traveling alone and traveling during the off season....I have been able to see so many things and be the only person there.

Rock City was one of those places. It has over 200 rocks that are of all sizes and shapes. I am surprised it was not more of an attraction than it is...you drive up, there is a donation box and you can walk around and see the rocks. Although I have never been to Stonehenge, this brochure says the rocks are sandstone creations that were made over a million years ago - they also look like some alien ship could have come down and swirled the earth in a way that formed these huge round rocks. At least that is one way to explain these odd creations. Most are very rounded....weird.

With the trusty Garmin, I was able to get back to the correct road and continue on my way to Grand Isle, Nebraska. Since it was going to be a long drive, the speed limit on the road was 75, I once again put in a CD. This time I was going to hear about "Last Chance Millionaire; It's not too late to become Wealthy". I must admit that the first few tracks I could understand, and then when he started talking about the 3 marvels of compound interest, tax favored accumulation and save positive leverage I began to wane. I heard the message that I needed to get clarity, focus, balance and confidence and I was beginning to really wonder if I needed to listen further. I took a quick bathroom stop, and of course since I was not in focus, I wandered into the mens room first...the clue was the urinal on the wall....but the weird shoes that showed under the door should have been a clue too. Needless to say, I got out of there as fast as I could, found the woman's room and got on the road as quick as I could.

It might have been the alien spirits as much as my unwillingness to learn about money and investing but trying to figure out whether I divide my interest earned or paid by 72 and not knowing whether I have drag, thrust or whatever airplane terminology fits finance I turned off the CD and drove in silence just enjoying my thoughts and seeing the Kansas / Nebraska landscape.
