Who Needs Napa Valley or Sonoma when Your Have Kansas

One of the great things I discovered this afternoon is that Kansas is a growing wine area. At least that is what is in the catalogs and what the vinters say. I went to 3different vineyards (or as I like to call them winerys) on my way to Salina, KS. They were not large ones, but quaint and very friendly ones. Of course I know nothing about grapes, so I listened politely as they told me the type that they grew. Of course then I told them I tended to like a crisp white wine and a flavorful semi bodied red - but I was open to trying whatever they suggested.

And trying I did. The good news is that there was NO tasting fee, and they did not let you try only so many. And NO, I did not overdo. If I didn't like I didn't finish it - but I did find a couple that I liked at each place. The good news is that one of the winerys gave me a case box so I can protect them as I am buying. I might end up having a nice supply of wine by the time this trip is over. But then, not sure Nebraska or Wyoming have a growing wine area or not. If they do, you can be sure I will find it.....

I did get into Salina at a reasonable time again. I am definitely not pushing myself. Just taking it nice and slow and nice and easy. Another 300 mile day. I think if I remember the plan, there are about 7500 or more miles to go - at this pace I may be on the road for months...(kidding Jessica....)

So, what do you think someone with all of the wine in her car does? After going to dinner and eating a healthy salad - I stopped at Walmart, got a 6 pack of beer and brought it back to the hotel. Put ice in the sink and chilled two, so I can relax as I am icing my knee (which doesn't hurt as much now that I listed to Joseph and got a brace) and winding down with a little TV and ready. And by the way - it is NOT a self help book. I am leaving those as planned. 2 down and an extensive library to go.

  1. You would think you might find a Brewery or two along the way. Then again that might add to the alcohol theme that this trip is starting to take and I don't want to do that.
